I installed Jubler and have used it with MPlayer OSX Extended on my iMac i5 when it was at 10.6.4. Mostly, you just need to drag on the waveform to make timecode, adjust timecode and input text. We focused on how to make it intuitive and easy to use. They also offer weekly and monthly plans, in case you don't need it on a regular basis, and they usually offer discounts for Black Friday, so you could try it with a weekly plan and then check the offers around Black Friday if you like it. Depending on your needs, you can also go for the non-Pro tool that costs about half the price (I think you don't get the shot change detection and the batch fixes, though). If you buy an yearly subscription it costs less. I pay a 6-months subscription and it costs around $27 per month. I highly recommend it! It has a trial version where you can use it without exporting the file (you have to subscribe to export the final file). A lot of perks, like magnetic positioning of start and end time on the shot change, or on the desired frame before/after the shot change. User friendly interface, excellent assistance via chat, infinite customizing possibility for batch checks and fixes that you can keep in the software's memory in order to apply the same parameters to the new projects for the same client /style guide. Some basic features of Jubler are given below. With Jubler you can edit subtitles individually, split or join them, use time shift for correct syncing etc. One unique feature of Jubler is that it can let you mark subtitles with different colors. I use it for both translation projects and transcription projects (importing the subtitles in the target column and shrinking the source column) and I'm really happy with it. Jubler is open source and free subtitle editor for Mac and authoring software. I personally ended up paying a subscription to Ooona Translate Pro, an online professional tool also used by agencies. I often ask this question too, since I've always been a Mac user, but all the softwares that are usually recommended don't look appealing to me seeing their interface, and none of them, from what I've seen, offers a free trial.
